RISE Center Receives Eva Dujay Foundation Assistive Technology Grant
The Eva Dujay Foundation, managed by Capital One Bank & Trust Dept. – Beaumont awarded RISE Center a $6,000 grant to purchase touchscreen technology to add to the centers’ assistive technology lab. This technology enhances the functional abilities of individuals with disabilities, and seniors, and provides opportunities to draw, write, and communicate in a way that is modified for nearly optimal use by the user. Consumers now have a greater chance of taking charge of their own lives, resulting in empowerment, and greater independence.
Governor Abbott Appoints Brocato to State Independent Living Council and Rehabilitation Council of Texas
Governor Greg Abbot has re-appointed RISE Center Executive Director to the State Independent Living Council, for a term, to expire October 24, 2018. The council develops the state plan for Independent Living and serves as a resource to state and local organizations on independent living and related issues for persons with disabilities.
In addition, Governor Abbot appointed Brocato to the Rehabilitation Council of Texas, for a term to expire October 29, 2018. The council partners with the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services to advocate for people with disabilities in the vocational rehabilitation process.
